First Steps to Becoming a First Time Homebuyer: Chadwick's REAL Tips Episode 13

Curious about getting qualified? It is easier than you think!

This week we are fortunate to have a well seasoned lender, John "JJ" Jeffrey with Westerra Credit Union, talk about the importance of getting prequalified before house hunting. JJ brings over 20 years experience to the table and Shangela loves him! Getting prequalified may seem like a daunting tasking, especially if you are aspiring to become a first time homebuyer. Here are some simple steps to simplify the process.

Step 1: Contact JJ directly at 303-618-1990 or email: jjeffrey@westerracu.com

JJ will take the extra time to understand your financial needs. Worried about how much of a monthly payment you are comfortable with? Concerned that your credit may not be high enough? JJ will coach you to meet your ultimate goal whether for the short term or the long term.

Step 2: Fill out an application. This part of the task can seem daunting, especially if you are a first time home buyer. Remember, this process is free and will give JJ the ability to give you a professional opinion about your potential buying power. It will require uploading some documentation, but once you have it done - you are done! Remember the work in getting prequalified is front loaded.

Step 3: JJ will contact you to talk about your application and based off of the results, get your prequalified. He will also take the time to coach you on different loan products to meet your individual needs.

Step 4: The fun begins!! You get to meet with Chadwick and Shangela and start looking for your dream home. Whether there is low inventory or it is a competitive market, our past clients tell us that we get them under contract fast.

Remember that getting prequalified is the most important part of the home buying process. It helps you plan financially as to what you can comfortable afford and allows for you to plan ahead. Driving down the road, looking at homes on your app and then making an offer is a little "cart before the horse." Be sure to 1) Have a prequalification letter in hand and 2) Be working with a professional realtor to assist you.

Both JJ and Myself (and Shangela) are here to answer any questions you may have about this process. We are a free resource to help you make wise financial decisions about the home buying or selling process! This is why we love what we do!
