How to Let Go of Your Family Home

After calling a place home for many years, it is hard to say goodbye to it as it houses so many memories that your family cherishes. When selling your home, it is important to recognize the deep emotional ties you have and begin the process of letting go.

  • Celebrate Change: Life happens right outside your comfort zone. That means that change is inevitable in order to meet new goals of a vibrant life. Selling your home is a successful step in moving forward.

  • Honor Memories: Walk through your home and remember the good times and challenges that were overcome in those very rooms and hallways. Know that those memories will remain after the sale.

  • Find the Right Buyer: Select a buyer who will appreciate the home as you did and who will create their own cherished memories within those same walls.

  • Give Thanks: Reflect on the gratitude you have for the place that has provided your family with safety and security throughout the years, held your moments of joy, struggle, and triumph, and is now a stepping stone to your new future.

The most important thing in this process is not to keep these feelings to yourself. Your family and friends can most likely relate to these bittersweet emotions, so share them. Whether it is hosting a small party to commemorate the home or having a packing party, spend this time with the ones you love.
